We’re excited to recognize Micki Mersky, Leader of WhiteCap Search’s Legal Staffing Division, as our January Leadership Spotlight honoree. With more than 25 years of experience in the legal staffing industry, Micki’s leadership, resilience, and relationship-driven approach have played a pivotal role in expanding WhiteCap’s service offerings and strengthening our market presence over the past year.
Building Her Journey at WhiteCap
Micki joined WhiteCap drawn to its boutique, entrepreneurial spirit and the opportunity to help build something meaningful. Having known Barbara and Jerry from a prior chapter in her career, she trusted their vision and passion for WhiteCap’s long-term growth and felt confident in the platform being built.
When Micki first arrived, her focus was on generating new contracts. As she integrated with WhiteCap’s existing sales function, her role quickly evolved. By combining her deep legal staffing expertise with WhiteCap’s robust client base, Micki was able to unlock new opportunities and expand relationships in a strategic, scalable way.
Launching and Scaling the Legal Staffing Vertical
One of Micki’s most significant accomplishments has been the successful launch and growth of WhiteCap’s legal staffing vertical, supporting both temporary and direct hire placements. In its first year, the team signed more than 25 contracts, largely driven by Micki’s credibility, relationships, and market knowledge.
Yet for Micki, the true milestone has been watching her team grow.
From starting at ground zero—learning new systems, navigating new processes, and managing the natural uncertainty that comes with building something new—the Legal Division not only met but exceeded its first-year goals. Today, the team is more confident, collaborative, and driven, reflecting Micki’s leadership and commitment to developing others.
As COO Barbara Tamberlane shared:
“In November 2024, we had the opportunity to bring Micki and her team over from another platform that was facing operational challenges. There were plenty of places they could have gone, but they chose us—and I believe our team and interview process played a big role in winning that deal. Adding this vertical truly rounded out the WCS service line offering.
I won’t say they outperformed my expectations—they outperformed their own. As a woman owner-operator, I want nothing more than to see female leaders and female teams succeed. Sometimes all you need is the right motivation, support, platform, and a little gift of timing to turn something good into something great. They’re only just getting started.”
Leading Through Motivation and Momentum
Micki stays motivated by embracing the natural ups and downs of the staffing industry and encouraging her team to focus on progress rather than setbacks.
“Motivation is contagious,” she says. “We celebrate the wins—big and small—and bring consistent energy to work every day. When you take care of yourself personally, that positivity carries into the workplace.”

Advice for Aspiring Leaders
Micki’s advice to those aspiring to leadership is both practical and people-focused:
“Learn how to communicate clearly and be an active listener. Leadership isn’t just about what you say—it’s how you say it. Take the time to understand what matters to your colleagues, be empathetic, and genuinely want others to succeed.”
